Various sources revealed for it was built during King Ezana, while He and His brother Syzana administrated Ethiopia and other places presently known us including N. Somalia, Djibouti, Kenya... []and it was built in 320AD. King Dawit also made his palace at Arrat mountain and worshiped here.
The amazing carving of the rock tells
how Ethiopians also pioneered architecture.
The gate of this church also tells the precision of Ethiopians during that time which the Europeans called it "barbaric", proved wrong their barbaric term itself.
People seem not to understand the historical, social, economic and political value of the rock-hewn church, and are scratching it with nails to carve their names on the walls.
Due to lack of care, herbs have grown on the church, and some of them with long roots, enough to ruin the building.
This heritage is not only for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Ethiopians, It is world's heritage, But have been ignored to much.
Ethiopians Carved the rock from top to bottom like that of Lalibella.
A certain engineer attempted to revive the rock hewin chuch but he did not manage to complete it due to disagreement with authorities in the church.
